Hey, hey, heyyyyy! My name is Jessica (aka Wayfaring Wanderer) and I am a free-spirited photographer who loves working with couples, individuals, and families who are committed to travel, adventure, and laid-back lifestyles. I've lived in the Boone, NC area since 2005 and I'm known for capturing the spirit of the folks I photograph—the expressions, gestures, and details that are outward expressions of our innermost selves. While I'm primarily a wedding + elopement photographer, I also love working w/ individuals/couples/families that are traveling to the High Country area to getaway to the mountains. I absolutely love what I do and am so grateful to work with some of the most amazing people in one of the most beautiful places EVAR. Let’s go on an adventure!
There’s a space between summer and fall where the seasons seamlessly converge. Summer weather starts fading fast while the splendor of autumn isn’t quite ready to reveal itself. This transition is a popular time to tie the knot in the High Country because temperatures are perfect for an outdoor destination wedding in the mountains. Our goal was to create a bohemian chic styled shoot inspired by tribal elements. When the opportunity arose to produce & photograph another wedding inspiration styled shoot I jumped at the chance to make it happen. It’s not every day you get to unleash your creativity and let your imagination run wild!
After assembling a dream team of local vendors from the Boone & Blowing Rock, NC areas, we came together to collaborate—in the middle of a busy wedding season—so we could create an intimate wedding shoot that was loosely inspired by Native American culture. We met at the Teepee Village at the top of Eagles Nest in Banner Elk, NC. This unique venue provided a beautiful backdrop that helped us produce a down-to-earth feel that allowed the natural surroundings of the forest to shine through.
Since it was such an epic location, simple details were all that was needed to set the stage. A fresh but bold color palette with pops of peach was used in the bouquet, floral crown, and centerpiece to complement the textures and tones of the towering teepees.
Desi’s Floral & Design Studio combined lots of organic and interesting flora such as dahlias, thistles, and goldenrod into the décor. Feathers and antlers were added throughout to incorporate hints of tribal elements that are a popular wedding trend. The bohemian chic floral crown was my favorite piece! I love working with Desi because she creates gorgeous arrangements.
The table setting was created using a stack of weathered wooden pallets to fit with the bohemian chic style. We delicately dressed the table with a vintage lace runner and offbeat amber-colored place settings from Miss Match Rentals. To add to the intimacy of the location and keep things simple the couple sat on overstuffed pillows with a Navajo-style rug beneath them. A perfect spot fit for two to celebrate!
Ugga Mugga Bakery created a two-tiered square cake with white chocolate buttercream icing, it had a textured look that was reminiscent of American Indian clay hut walls. Flowers and feathers added a striking burst of interest and color to the natural feel.
Did Someone Say Party? supplied us with a gorgeous bohemian-style long-sleeve, lace sheath wedding gown by Maggie Sottero. Marion with Beautiful Bride on Location gave Brecken a fresh-faced makeup look for the day. To complete the bride’s style, she wore a rust-colored gemstone necklace, blue gemstone earrings, and a braided leather cuff from Strand Beads + Jewelry.
Pulling off a shoot like this in a short period of time (3 weeks) wasn’t easy to manage but we worked as a team to collaborate and bring this crazy concept of mine to fruition. I’m so grateful for the wedding vendors that believed in my vision and entrusted me to capture their work in a way that showcased everyone’s unique skills and talents.
When it was all said and done, we ended up getting this Bohemian Chic Tribal Inspired Styled Shoot featured in the High Country Wedding Guide which was thrilling to see a 7-page spread plastered on the pages of the magazine. We also landed the cover shot which was a first for me, so I’m definitely celebrating that achievement!
Many thanks to the magnificent team who helped to make this happen! I hope you enjoyed this look at our styled wedding shoot collaboration! Let us know what you think in the comments below!
