Hey, hey, heyyyyy! My name is Jessica (aka Wayfaring Wanderer) and I am a free-spirited photographer who loves working with couples, individuals, and families who are committed to travel, adventure, and laid-back lifestyles. I've lived in the Boone, NC area since 2005 and I'm known for capturing the spirit of the folks I photograph—the expressions, gestures, and details that are outward expressions of our innermost selves. While I'm primarily a wedding + elopement photographer, I also love working w/ individuals/couples/families that are traveling to the High Country area to getaway to the mountains. I absolutely love what I do and am so grateful to work with some of the most amazing people in one of the most beautiful places EVAR. Let’s go on an adventure!
“There is always the sun after the rain,” Meghan said in retrospect. Her dream for their Overlook Barn wedding day including saying their vows in front of their loved ones with a view of the Blue Ridge mountains behind them. Rain nearly sabotaged that wish, when buckets began pouring from the sky, just before the ceremony was supposed to begin. Friends and family were watching the radar and making predictions on how soon it would stop, but, really, the odds weren’t looking so great.
“It’s good luck when it rains on your wedding day!” is what the folks around her kept saying to reassure the brokenhearted bride. But that didn’t change the fact that Meghan had her heart set on getting married outside instead of inside the Overlook Barn wedding venue.
They quickly began moving tables and chairs inside the barn so the couple could say “I do” sheltered from the elements. Meghan stared out the window of her getting ready room hoping that the torrential downpour would subside but it kept coming down in sheets. Just as they got everything situated and were about to make the call, the sun started to shine and the rain stopped. It was a miracle! Truly.
Meghan got her wish after all, and the two became husband and wife with the mountains and family & friends surrounding them during their quick and simple ceremony.
Meghan & Steven’s love story started with the help of social media, they began talking because he went to school with Megan’s sister, Haley. One night, Steven went to visit Meghan at work and won her over with Mexican food, her favorite. And they’ve been together every day possible since March of 2014.
The couple chose Overlook Barn in Banner Elk, NC because they loved the view of the mountains. And because they appreciated the casual feel of the wedding venue itself. The style of their wedding day was rustic and vintage-ish so the vibe of Overlook Barn fit perfectly with what Meghan envisioned.
The lovely bride wore a gorgeous mermaid shaped gown with a fitted bodice and sweetheart neckline that was embellished with Swarovski crystals designed by Allure Bridals. It had an all-over lace overlay with elegant embroidery and delicate lace appliqué that added an element of vintage appeal to the gown. She purchased the dress from Southern Bride. I loved the blush colored bridesmaids dresses that Meghan’s lovely laydehs wore. They got to pick out their own gowns so they were all different, too!
Meghan wanted to keep it simple, so she let Overlook Barn act as the main decor. The natural elements of the barn were complemented with various details such as geometric vases stuffed with succulents, gold frames with quotes & info signs, candles, other sparkly accents, and wooden boxes filled with flowers & greenery. The wedding cake was made by Hallmark Cakes located in the Boone/Blowing Rock, NC area. The couple also had a candy bar and photobooth to entertain guests.
Prior to their wedding day, Meghan shared that she was looking for a Boone wedding photographer that paid attention to details and that was able to capture “in the moment” shots. Like most couples, Meghan wanted someone that would showcase all the hard work that they put into making their wedding day a reflection of what’s important to them. But they also wanted a photographer that would take pictures of the moments that make up the special day.
There are so many things that happen on a wedding day, some instances the couple might not even see if it weren’t for their photographers. I’m so grateful that I was able to create images of those important moments for them.
There were some hiccups along the way but Meghan + Steven kept the most positive attitudes throughout the entire day. It may have poured at different times but they still partied HARD with their friends and family and had an epic time! It was an absolute honor to be a part of their wedding day.
Things don’t always turn out the way you may envision on your wedding day but it’s all part of the journey that will make up your marriage. At the end of it all, you will still be married to the one you want to grow old with and that’s what matters most! Take in every moment and do your best not to stress.
CONGRATULATIONS to Meghan + Steven on your wedding and marriage! I know you had a blast on your surprise honeymoon that Steven planned in Jamaica but I wish you two more epic adventures in life and love, and I hope that your relationship and the connection you share will grow stronger as you continue this journey together! Thank you so much for choosing me out of all the other Boone photographers to capture your Overlook Barnwedding photos, it really means a lot to me!
