Hey, hey, heyyyyy! My name is Jessica (aka Wayfaring Wanderer) and I am a free-spirited photographer who loves working with couples, individuals, and families who are committed to travel, adventure, and laid-back lifestyles. I've lived in the Boone, NC area since 2005 and I'm known for capturing the spirit of the folks I photograph—the expressions, gestures, and details that are outward expressions of our innermost selves. While I'm primarily a wedding + elopement photographer, I also love working w/ individuals/couples/families that are traveling to the High Country area to getaway to the mountains. I absolutely love what I do and am so grateful to work with some of the most amazing people in one of the most beautiful places EVAR. Let’s go on an adventure!

Giftysong creates custom wedding songs for your special day and pretty much any other occasion you can think of. Think proposal songs, anniversary songs, theme songs, birthday songs…the list goes on and on! Using your input and feedback and their amazing musical skills, Todd and Emily, will personally customize a tune that you will want to listen to on repeat.
The fun-loving couple that started Giftysong has been making music together since the day they met back in 2003. Music has been a constant in their lives and marriage. They’ve written hundreds of songs over the last 10 years and they have no intention of stopping anytime soon. In fact, they are so passionate about making music that they have launched a Kickstarter campaign to build a music studio here in the High Country. Having a soundproof studio will help them to create an even more polished product for their own albums as well as for clients. They only have 3 days left to go! So far, backers have pledged $4,126 of their $9,900 goal.
Todd and Emily love to record music for themselves and for others. Their motto is “We make people cry happy tears”. If you are looking for a unique and unforgettable gift consider a personalized present like custom wedding songs to share with your bride or groom on your wedding day. It’s a gift they will cherish forever! I’m excited to share this behind-the-scenes interview about how and why Giftysong got started.
I want to showcase passionate professionals in the wedding industry that help bring the day of your dreams to life. There are real people behind these businesses and I want you to get a glimpse of how they got started and why they do what they do. I hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes interview series. I’m so excited to spotlight these High Country Creators.
We just decided one day that we wanted to start a side business and the next day we went to work on the website. The tricky part for us was learning how to use WordPress and pricing our services.
We are always working on music projects. In the past, we have always released an original CD of our music about every 2 years (and these releases have coincided with having babies too!). We have used Kickstarter.com for almost every release in funding the project. We offer different incentives for people to help us to meet our goal, and one of the incentives on our 2nd and 3rd project was to write a custom song. We ended up writing a song for a stranger on our last release, and we just thought it was super cool that someone we didn’t know thought our songwriting was valuable. It happened to be a song for his wife on Valentine’s Day. At that point, we were looking for some side income. Todd was taking a shower one day and had a sudden realization that “a stranger PAID us to write music for them!!!”. The gears started turning, and the next day Giftysong.com was set into motion. It’s been about 2 years now, and we have started another Kickstarter campaign over at www.kicktoddandemily.com
It made a lot of sense to us. A custom song is such a meaningful gift and a way to immortalize moments in time. What better event to start with than with a wedding?! Of course, we are not limited to doing only weddings, but we really enjoy working on those songs!
Working with our clients is very enjoyable. We really get to know them and try to imagine the perfect song for them. It is really exciting to send them the final product and hear their reaction. There are often happy tears involved 🙂

Meeting deadlines can be tricky, especially when we are waiting for clients to get edits back to us, etc. Then there’s the obvious challenge of meeting everyone’s HUGE expectations that they have for the special day.
Music is so personal and unique to each person. The lyrics can mean 100 different things to 100 different people, but at the same time can enhance and memorialize an event all while showing off the bride and grooms personality and values.
I (Todd) wrote a song and sang it to Emily on our wedding day, and Emily sang a song to me as well. It is the ultimate form of communication…emotional and cerebral, heart and soul. We also chose some music that was very personal to our story to be the backdrop of the service. We are goofy people and around the time we got married, the movie Napolean Dynamite had just come out and was one of our favorites. It played a role in our dating relationship, so we had some of the music from the movie playing as we walked down the aisle as a newly married couple.
The only thing I can think of is that we would incorporate a Pug somehow because we just love them. 🙂
Prepare for the long-haul. The wedding is only the beginning. It will test you in every way, and teach you a lot about yourself if you are willing to cut each other some slack.
Wayfaring Wanderer, of course! To be honest, we have not been as involved with the local wedding scene as we would like just because we have 3 kids under 6, full-time jobs, and the side business. It’s hard to find time to connect with others. That is why we are excited about Jessica reaching out through this blog! Hopefully, we get to know some of you better.
Very professional and a sweet happy spirit! Great artistic sensibilities as well. 🙂
