Hey, hey, heyyyyy! My name is Jessica (aka Wayfaring Wanderer) and I am a free-spirited photographer who loves working with couples, individuals, and families who are committed to travel, adventure, and laid-back lifestyles. I've lived in the Boone, NC area since 2005 and I'm known for capturing the spirit of the folks I photograph—the expressions, gestures, and details that are outward expressions of our innermost selves. While I'm primarily a wedding + elopement photographer, I also love working w/ individuals/couples/families that are traveling to the High Country area to getaway to the mountains. I absolutely love what I do and am so grateful to work with some of the most amazing people in one of the most beautiful places EVAR. Let’s go on an adventure!

When I discovered podcasts for entrepreneurs I was instantly hooked! There’s something special about being able to listen to a real life conversation as opposed to reading a book, magazine article, or blog post. While I have a daily habit of reading books that inspire my business and life, I’ve gotten to where I only read a handful of online articles every week. The less time I spend in front of the computer, the better. That’s one reason why I enjoy listening to podcasts so much.
Just like reading books for entrepreneurs, podcasts are one of the best things I do for my business. I even find myself wanting to listen to podcasts instead of music now, too. On the last road trip I took to FL for a business retreat, I listened to podcasts for 8-hours straight in lieu of tunes. Sounds crazy, right? I know. But I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for learning and entertaining repartee.
If you’ve been living under a rock (seriously, they are all the rage), podcasts are digital audio or video recordings that can be streamed or downloaded directly to your device that you listen to anytime you want. If you don’t have a smartphone you can still listen to podcasts online through your web browser.
I personally love to listen to them while I’m doing something else like taking a shower, cooking dinner, while I’m driving, etc. Listening to podcasts helps me turn my hyperactive brain off so that I can focus on something else for a change, but there are other benefits, too!
Last week I shared books for entrepreneurs that I read last year, but here are some podcasts that I enjoy listening to on a regular basis. This list of favorites covers a variety of subjects ranging from business to well-being. I chose these because they all offer nuggets of wisdom that enrich and inspire my business + life! Do you listen to podcasts?
EO Fire (Business)
John Lee Dumas
When I first listened to Entrepreneur on Fire I didn’t like it. But JLD (John Lee Dumas) grew on me—he has an extremely energetic personality. What’s unique about this podcast, though, is that he has a new show every day of the week and he’s been doing it for 1,220 days straight! How amazing is that? John Lee interviews a wide range of guests and he doesn’t gloss over the struggles that business owners encounter along the way to building a profitable business. I love when he asks “What was your worst entrepreneurial moment to date?” It’s inspiring to hear how they embraced and overcame the challenges they were up against. Want to start your own podcast? He has a free course to get you started! [SUBSCRIBE on iTunes]
Being Boss (Management & Marketing)
Emily Thompson & Kathleen Shannon
This podcast is for creative entrepreneurs and it will motivate you to be the “boss” you are capable of. Both of the hosts have bubbly personalities that shine through on the show. I can totally see myself hanging out with these two because they’re a pretty goofy pair. You can have fun and still get shit done and that’s what these boss laydehs are all about! ProBlogger (Management & Marketing)
Darren Rowse
I started the Wayfaring Wanderer blog back in 2007 and I’ve been following Darren online for the last decade because his blogs are a wealth of information. Subscribing to his podcast was a no-brainer because I knew that it would be filled with helpful tips for writing and blogging. What I didn’t realize, though, was how entertaining it would be to listen to his accent. [SUBSCRIBE on iTunes]
Unstoppable Success Radio (Management & Marketing)
Kelly Roach
Accomplishing goals takes work and Unstoppable Success can help you achieve them with more ease. The topics on this podcast are centered around sales, marketing, business growth, etc. I’ve found the actionable strategies that Kelly shares to be super helpful because I can easily implement the ideas after listening. Her go-getter attitude is encouraging but direct. Listening to this podcast is an empowering kick in the pants! [SUBSCRIBE on iTunes]
The Suitcase Entrepreneur (Careers)
Natalie Sisson
One of my driving forces for being an entrepreneur was to have more freedom in my everyday life. [READ: My Entrepreneurial Adventure] Natalie has built a location independent business that she can run from anywhere in the world by using social media and other online tools and she shares tips and tricks for how you can do the same. I love her adventurous spirit and kiwi accent! [SUBSCRIBE to iTunes]
The School of Greatness (Self-Help)
Lewis Howes
Lewis hit rock bottom when he ended up sleeping on his sister’s couch after an injury kept him from playing professional football. But now, he’s built a successful seven-figure business. His goal with The School of Greatness podcast is to share inspiring stories from influential folks that are making their mark in the world. I love his enthusiasm and upbeat attitude. Five-minute Fridays will give you a dose of inspiration if you need a quick pick me up! [SUBSCRIBE on iTunes]
Happier (Self-Help)
Gretchen Rubin
I started listening to this podcast after I read Gretchen’s most recent book, Better Than Before. The concepts in her book regarding how we create and maintain habits was intriguing to me so I decided to give the show a go. Her sister Elizabeth, a TV writer, is the co-host and they discuss their personal lives and shine a light on the habits and tips they have that help them maintain happier and healthier lives. I love these two together and how transparent they are about what goes on behind-the-scenes. [SUBSCRIBE on iTunes]
The Science of Success (Social Science)
Matt Bodnar
This is a fairly new podcast but it is fascinating! If I wasn’t passionate about being a wedding photographer, I would have pursued psychology because it has always been a subject that intrigued me. So, a podcast that explores the understanding of what motivates people and drives their decisions was one I definitely wanted to listen to. The podcast has shared some startling concepts and patterns that are verified by psychology research. Uncovering the mystery of my mind is something that I will always endeavor to do and this podcast is a great way of tapping into your subconscious. [SUBSCRIBE on iTunes]
The Essential Oil Revolution (Alternative Health)
Samantha Lee Wright
I’ve been enjoying the wide range of subjects this health-centered podcast shares. It’s perfect for people that love using essential oils to support their well-being and are looking to expand their knowledge on the subject of how to use them more effectively. Sam is a wonderful host that interviews experts of all sorts. The Essential Oil Revolution podcast is super informative and helpful! [SUBSCRIBE on iTunes]
The Lively Show (Society & Culture)
Jess Lively
I’ve been following Jess’ blog for a few years now. Her message is all about living a more intentional life. When she launched a podcast I was onboard! In fact, The Lively Show was the first podcast I listened to back when I discovered them in 2014. The show is upbeat and uplifting and the entrepreneurs that she interviews are inspirational. I always gain new insights that can be applied to my daily life that will add a little extra intention. [SUBSCRIBE on iTunes]
On Being (Society & Culture)
Krista Tippett
I’ve appreciated On Being because of the mindfulness and meaning that Krista brings to each interview. So many thought-provoking episodes that get me thinking about my spiritual journey in ways that I have yet to explore. The guests that she has on the show are from all walks of life and include a myriad of perspectives and experiences. The interviewer has a calm vibe that gently guides the guest to share their stories in a way that soothes and inspires. [SUBSCRIBE on iTunes]
The Art of Manliness (History)
Brett McKay
I know that this is supposed to be a podcast to help men become better men but I like this show nonetheless! The topics that they cover, such as “#175: Systemizing Your Work and Life” and “#169: The Psychology of Scam Artists & How Not to Get Duped,” are just as relatable to women as they are to men so I’m breaking the rules and listening anyway.
