“Is this real life?”, Meghan kept asking when Steven unexpectedly popped the question. She could barely believe what was happening because Steven was working overtime to get her thinking otherwise that weekend. In fact, it was a surprise to them both that they got engaged that day. Steven wasn’t planning to pop the question during their getaway but he couldn’t wait any longer. He wanted to pick the perfect moment to ask her to spend the rest of their lives together, but when he realized that they were *in* the perfect moment he asked her to marry him right then and there.

We were holding out for snowy Blowing Rock, NC engagement photos but the winter weather in the High Country wasn’t cooperating so we went ahead and scheduled their shoot anyway. To our surprise, we ended up getting flurries that day after all! The snow wasn’t sticking much but it was still magical. Who knew we’d get exactly what the bride-to-be was hoping for. I love when that happens!

Meghan + Steven traveled 2 hours up the mountain from Greensboro, NC for their adventurous engagement photos in Blowing Rock, NC. They enjoy visiting new places together so I worked closely with them to find the perfect location for engagement photos.

We started the adventure at Bass Lake to get some photos with their adorable Goldendoodle Calvin and to take advantage of the lovely wooded backdrop. I love when couples include their furry family members in their engagement sessions. Meghan loves her pup and would take him with her everywhere if she could, so why not let him be in the engagement photos, too!

It was cold and windy that day but the couple was excited about the unexpected snow, so they were in good spirits. They snuggled up in a quilt and kept each other warm as we moved around the lake. Once we got the pictures we needed at Bass Lake we headed over to Downtown Blowing Rock to capture some images there, too. There are so many wonderful spots for awesome engagement photos in that area! Meghan + Steven opted for a 2-hour session so we had plenty of time to do images at two different locations for even more variation.

Meghan + Steven decided to have engagement pictures taken because they’ve never had any professional photos done together as a couple and it also gave them a chance to warm up to the camera before their wedding day! This is one of the #1 reasons why you should do engagement photos because it will help with just that. Once you know what to expect it’ll allow you to be more comfortable when having your pictures taken on the wedding day!
